B737-300 aircraft on visual approach, flight crew observed flaps would not extend beyond 5 degrees though the handle was in the 10 degree slot. A missed approach was executed, their company maintenance was contacted, performed alternate flap irregular procedure and lowered flaps to 15 degrees. Flight attendants were briefed to prepare the cabin for possible evacuate/evacuation, longest runway was chosen. Emergency vehicles requested and the flight landed uneventfully.

Narrative:
Conducting a visual approach to runway 4R bos. Crew noticed flaps not deploying to commanded position. Executed missed approach. Performed alternate flap irregular procedure. Followed all company sops, requested equipment at bos, prepared cabin for possible evacuate/evacuation. Contacted air carrier maintenance for support, no help in correcting the problem. Flap is partial flap confign was performed to landing at bos. No further complications.
