Narrative:

On a flight from ffz to tfd to practice approachs, saw smoke from burning house. Falcon tower called helicopter traffic en route to fire. Followed helicopter to fire and circled fire with helicopter. Then I noticed that I was 2 mi from chd and had not called the tower! I was too busy looking out for traffic and not paying attention to where I was!

Title: PLT OF A MOONEY, MO20F INADVERTENTLY FLEW INTO CLASS D AIRSPACE AFTER CIRCLING A HOUSE ON FIRE WITHIN 2 MI OF A CTLED ARPT.

Narrative: ON A FLT FROM FFZ TO TFD TO PRACTICE APCHS, SAW SMOKE FROM BURNING HOUSE. FALCON TWR CALLED HELI TFC ENRTE TO FIRE. FOLLOWED HELI TO FIRE AND CIRCLED FIRE WITH HELI. THEN I NOTICED THAT I WAS 2 MI FROM CHD AND HAD NOT CALLED THE TWR! I WAS TOO BUSY LOOKING OUT FOR TFC AND NOT PAYING ATTN TO WHERE I WAS!
