Narrative:

Cleared for takeoff runway 33 which has strict noise abatement procedure. Advised to 'contact departure airborne.' took off and flew the headings/intercepted radial, etc, but focused on the procedure, failed to contact departure until leveling off at 5000 ft. While I prefer the canadian method, the fact that we do it rarely, presents a problem when other distractions or procedures exist. The answer? Perhaps just increased emphasis for united states pilots and canadian controllers that this procedure can, at times, lead to lapses in communication. Thanks for considering this input.
