Narrative:
I was cruising at 5500 ft which is higher than normal due to turbulence. I've flown around the mci TCA (class B for yrs) and at this time, I'm not certain that I entered class B without a clearance. But ATC says I did. ATC said I entered the 4000 ft ring descending. If that is a fact, I must have looked at major landmarks incorrectly (there are two, 2- lane hwys which could easily be mistaken). I was demonstrating this airplane to a prospective buyer and possibly not as vigilant as I should have been. I truly thought I was below class B. As a professional pilot we fly mostly IFR. Maybe we need to review pilotage once in a while.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMA PLT ON A DEMO FLT STRAYS INTO THE CLASS B NEAR MCI. PROBABLY DISTRACTED WITH CUSTOMER ON BOARD. WAS FLYING HIGHER THAN NORMAL DUE TO TURB AT LOWER ALTS. HAD A GPS, DIDN'T USE IT. USED A QUESTIONABLE HWY FOR NAV PURPOSES.
