Narrative:

Atl ATC, apparently under pressure or in cooperation with xx airlines according to their atl chief pilot, is out to 'move the metal legally and safely' without much regard for anything else. The visual approach mandate continues with our experience in which they directed us to report airport in sight. We rogered the transmission, not having the field in sight due to the haze. It didn't matter the controller cleared us for the visual and due to his rapid fire continuing transmission we could not alert him to this until field finally appeared out of haze. He then asked about the BAE146 in front of us. We said it was insight and he immediately cleared us to follow him. (If you don't call traffic in sight they will make as many as 11 xmissions asking you to call it in sight.) spacing remained adequate but the aircraft did not clear runway. At 100 ft AGL seeing that aircraft was still on runway 1/2 way between any available turnoff, I initiated a go around. Tower's participation they just kept asking aircraft to call clear of runway (just covering their butts on tape). Atl and dal are out of control -- this 'move the metal' mentality is going to get metal bent or people hurt. However, it appears I'm the only one that has a problem with this, according to the chief pilot who 'has more time in atl than I do.' he came there after 4 yrs in slc.

Title: MD88 FLC EXECUTES GAR DUE TO ACFT ON RWY. FLC BELIEVES ATC IS TRYING TO 'MOVE METAL' TO THE DETRIMENT OF SAFETY. CLRED FOR VISUAL PRIOR TO INDICATING FIELD IN SIGHT.

Narrative: ATL ATC, APPARENTLY UNDER PRESSURE OR IN COOPERATION WITH XX AIRLINES ACCORDING TO THEIR ATL CHIEF PLT, IS OUT TO 'MOVE THE METAL LEGALLY AND SAFELY' WITHOUT MUCH REGARD FOR ANYTHING ELSE. THE VISUAL APCH MANDATE CONTINUES WITH OUR EXPERIENCE IN WHICH THEY DIRECTED US TO RPT ARPT IN SIGHT. WE ROGERED THE XMISSION, NOT HAVING THE FIELD IN SIGHT DUE TO THE HAZE. IT DIDN'T MATTER THE CTLR CLRED US FOR THE VISUAL AND DUE TO HIS RAPID FIRE CONTINUING XMISSION WE COULD NOT ALERT HIM TO THIS UNTIL FIELD FINALLY APPEARED OUT OF HAZE. HE THEN ASKED ABOUT THE BAE146 IN FRONT OF US. WE SAID IT WAS INSIGHT AND HE IMMEDIATELY CLRED US TO FOLLOW HIM. (IF YOU DON'T CALL TFC IN SIGHT THEY WILL MAKE AS MANY AS 11 XMISSIONS ASKING YOU TO CALL IT IN SIGHT.) SPACING REMAINED ADEQUATE BUT THE ACFT DID NOT CLR RWY. AT 100 FT AGL SEEING THAT ACFT WAS STILL ON RWY 1/2 WAY BTWN ANY AVAILABLE TURNOFF, I INITIATED A GAR. TWR'S PARTICIPATION THEY JUST KEPT ASKING ACFT TO CALL CLR OF RWY (JUST COVERING THEIR BUTTS ON TAPE). ATL AND DAL ARE OUT OF CTL -- THIS 'MOVE THE METAL' MENTALITY IS GOING TO GET METAL BENT OR PEOPLE HURT. HOWEVER, IT APPEARS I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS A PROB WITH THIS, ACCORDING TO THE CHIEF PLT WHO 'HAS MORE TIME IN ATL THAN I DO.' HE CAME THERE AFTER 4 YRS IN SLC.
