Narrative:

After takeoff retracted gear. Loss of hydraulic fluid (hydraulic light on). We then turned hydraulic pump off, put the gear down. Got only 1 nose green. No main indications with the red in- transit light on handle. We used our QRH and decided to pump the gear down. We declared an emergency and prepared cabin for landing. Returned and landed at jfk, runway 31R, with no incidents. Problem was caused by broken hydraulic line. Crew did excellent job. Kept calm and professional. CRM played a big part for a safe outcome.
