Narrative:

At FL230 traffic on TCASII depicted on TCASII 45 degree right, up 1000 ft at 6 mi. Developed to RA and we followed respond to FL220 while informing ATC. Controller asked us to stay at FL220. Controller said traffic was to left and below, which was confirmed visually by PIC. Traffic was a cessna citation. Controller said TCASII gave an erroneous indication and should have equipment checked out. Equipment tested ok by crew when on ground afterward. I believe the TCASII has saved my life before, but this time it did not work properly. That is, the TCASII equipment almost caused a midair collision!

Narrative: AT FL230 TFC ON TCASII DEPICTED ON TCASII 45 DEG R, UP 1000 FT AT 6 MI. DEVELOPED TO RA AND WE FOLLOWED RESPOND TO FL220 WHILE INFORMING ATC. CTLR ASKED US TO STAY AT FL220. CTLR SAID TFC WAS TO L AND BELOW, WHICH WAS CONFIRMED VISUALLY BY PIC. TFC WAS A CESSNA CITATION. CTLR SAID TCASII GAVE AN ERRONEOUS INDICATION AND SHOULD HAVE EQUIP CHKED OUT. EQUIP TESTED OK BY CREW WHEN ON GND AFTERWARD. I BELIEVE THE TCASII HAS SAVED MY LIFE BEFORE, BUT THIS TIME IT DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THAT IS, THE TCASII EQUIP ALMOST CAUSED A MIDAIR COLLISION!
