Narrative:

I was PIC of flight on feb/sun/97. Flight was from iah to atl, departing iah at approximately PM40 local on runway 32. Takeoff clearance was received with instructions to 'cleared for takeoff, give me a tight turn to 150 degrees.' 150 degree heading may not be correct, just my recollection. Turn was for a large direction change though. On takeoff as I reached 400 ft AGL and began turn it appeared that aircraft track might take aircraft over cargo or southern part of passenger terminal. To roll out of tight turn would for sure cause track to pass over part of terminal. We must fly over populated areas often, ie, midway airport, lga, washington national and especially san diego. But, when possible, takeoff instructions should be given that would minimize this.
