An air carrier B727 flight crew got off course when they entered the wrong VOR radial in the CDI window. The alert controller corrected them and gave them a clearance direct to the next intersection.

Narrative:
Upon passing the apan VOR/DME on the apan departure from mex, wrong radial was inadvertently dialed into window of CDI and subsequently flown outbound for approximately 20 mi. Mmex directed a heading of 60 degrees and cleared flight directly to villa intersection. The remainder of flight was uneventful.

Narrative: UPON PASSING THE APAN VOR/DME ON THE APAN DEP FROM MEX, WRONG RADIAL WAS INADVERTENTLY DIALED INTO WINDOW OF CDI AND SUBSEQUENTLY FLOWN OUTBOUND FOR APPROX 20 MI. MMEX DIRECTED A HDG OF 60 DEGS AND CLRED FLT DIRECTLY TO VILLA INTXN. THE REMAINDER OF FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL.
