Narrative:

The night before an assigned am shift, dispatch (crew scheduling) called to verify that I was the captain. They were confused about me not showing up on the computer, since I was assigned a flying line. I assured them that in fact I was flying that shift, as it was on my line. Later during the day crew scheduling called after landing to inform me that I was timed out and not legal to fly. Whoever was writing my line wasn't aware that the line was not legal for me to fly. My mistake was not to check my times in my logbook which resulted in me flying 1.5 hours over my legal limit. We ended up respositioning the aircraft back to base, where another crew was waiting.
