Narrative:

I left vedalia, la, in a rented C150 to go to marshall, tx. The WX briefing indicated probable IFR conditions, but also conditions likely to improve. I flew to olla, la (LA32) and landed for a while (about 1 hour) because conditions were not very good. I then flew towards marshall, tx, and picked up flight following from shv ATC. I was over an overcast layer (tops very variable). Going to marshall I was possibly not 1000 ft above the clouds at all times. I flew around the marshall area for an hour or so and began to get low on fuel. I found a small break in the overcast and descended to about 800 ft, 14 mi northeast of marshall. I had about 15 seconds of IMC. Anyway, I shouldn't have tried the trip in a VFR only plane with the briefing I got.

Title: A VFR C150 IS TRAPPED ON TOP AND ENTERS IMC DURING DSCNT WITH NO FLT PLAN. APPARENTLY, ATC WAS NOT ADVISED.

Narrative: I LEFT VEDALIA, LA, IN A RENTED C150 TO GO TO MARSHALL, TX. THE WX BRIEFING INDICATED PROBABLE IFR CONDITIONS, BUT ALSO CONDITIONS LIKELY TO IMPROVE. I FLEW TO OLLA, LA (LA32) AND LANDED FOR A WHILE (ABOUT 1 HR) BECAUSE CONDITIONS WERE NOT VERY GOOD. I THEN FLEW TOWARDS MARSHALL, TX, AND PICKED UP FLT FOLLOWING FROM SHV ATC. I WAS OVER AN OVCST LAYER (TOPS VERY VARIABLE). GOING TO MARSHALL I WAS POSSIBLY NOT 1000 FT ABOVE THE CLOUDS AT ALL TIMES. I FLEW AROUND THE MARSHALL AREA FOR AN HR OR SO AND BEGAN TO GET LOW ON FUEL. I FOUND A SMALL BREAK IN THE OVCST AND DSNDED TO ABOUT 800 FT, 14 MI NE OF MARSHALL. I HAD ABOUT 15 SECONDS OF IMC. ANYWAY, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TRIED THE TRIP IN A VFR ONLY PLANE WITH THE BRIEFING I GOT.
