Narrative:

Initially cleared to descend to FL240, controller then revised clearance to descend to FL270. At about FL275 controller pointed out traffic at FL270. At FL272 we got a 'climb, climb' RA from TCASII. Controller asked us our altitude we stated that we had been at FL272 and were now climbing to respond to RA. He said that we had been cleared to FL280. We responded with 'no sir you cleared us to FL270.' he told us tapes were being pulled there was a discrepancy. We had traffic on TCASII. On ground in lax we were instructed to call center. They informed us that we had been cleared to FL270 and had done as instructed.
