Narrative:

We completed the before takeoff checklist on the parallel taxiway to runway 24L 'down to the line.' we completed the rest of the takeoff checklist as we taxied into position. Upon clearance for takeoff, the captain advanced the power levers. I took over control of the power levers and advanced them toward takeoff position. The captain called for 'EPR.' I went to hit the EPR button and resume following the throttles to takeoff position. We then received an audible sound and a confign light, power was already above 70 percent N1. The captain aborted takeoff at about 60 KTS maximum. We asked to exit the runway and advised ATCT we had a problem, did not need assistance. We exited the runway, checked our confign, and returned to gate. Confign was proper for takeoff. Maintenance checked aircraft computer and found #3 spoiler had been extended and also a yaw damper fault indication. New computer cards were replaced and ground checked. We then proceeded to depart without further incident. Maintenance said #3 spoiler was deployed even though the spoiler handle was in down position.
