Narrative:

30 mi west of cvg, air carrier X checked in with cvg approach control. They said for air carrier X to expect ILS runway 18L. We had already briefed ILS runway 18R so we set up for runway 18L ILS and briefed that approach. 9 mi north of cvg, we were turned on base leg (heading 090 degrees). About 4 mi from runway 18L centerline, we were given a heading of 150 degrees and cleared for the ILS runway 18L approach, maintain 170 KTS till logoz and switch tower 118.3. Upon contacting tower, final monitor came on saying that we were going through the localizer. We replied that we were intercepting localizer for runway 18L. We then confirmed that we were cleared for ILS runway 18L and tower responded yes and we then switched to tower on 118.97. They in turn cleared us to land runway 18L. It is obvious that approach thought that they had cleared us for ILS runway 18R when we had been cleared earlier for ILS runway 18L. Fortunately, everything worked out fine, but this could have been a very serious situation.

Title: DUE TO A LACK OF ATC INTRACOORD, ATC THOUGHT THAT THE FLC OF AN MLG HAD OVERSHOT FINAL TO A PARALLEL RWY. THE FLC WERE CONTINUING TO THE RWY TO WHICH THEY UNDERSTOOD THEY WERE CLRED AND WHICH WAS THEN VERIFIED BY THE INTERVENING TWR CTLR. HOWEVER, IF THE FLC HAD RECOGNIZED THE NAME OF THE OM TO WHICH THEY WERE TO RPT, THEY WOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE ERROR SINCE IT WAS FOR THE OTHER RWY AND NOT THE ONE CLRED.

Narrative: 30 MI W OF CVG, ACR X CHKED IN WITH CVG APCH CTL. THEY SAID FOR ACR X TO EXPECT ILS RWY 18L. WE HAD ALREADY BRIEFED ILS RWY 18R SO WE SET UP FOR RWY 18L ILS AND BRIEFED THAT APCH. 9 MI N OF CVG, WE WERE TURNED ON BASE LEG (HDG 090 DEGS). ABOUT 4 MI FROM RWY 18L CTRLINE, WE WERE GIVEN A HDG OF 150 DEGS AND CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 18L APCH, MAINTAIN 170 KTS TILL LOGOZ AND SWITCH TWR 118.3. UPON CONTACTING TWR, FINAL MONITOR CAME ON SAYING THAT WE WERE GOING THROUGH THE LOC. WE REPLIED THAT WE WERE INTERCEPTING LOC FOR RWY 18L. WE THEN CONFIRMED THAT WE WERE CLRED FOR ILS RWY 18L AND TWR RESPONDED YES AND WE THEN SWITCHED TO TWR ON 118.97. THEY IN TURN CLRED US TO LAND RWY 18L. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT APCH THOUGHT THAT THEY HAD CLRED US FOR ILS RWY 18R WHEN WE HAD BEEN CLRED EARLIER FOR ILS RWY 18L. FORTUNATELY, EVERYTHING WORKED OUT FINE, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS SIT.
