Narrative:

The flight was uneventful until the gear was extended just outside ruett (OM). At that time, we noticed that the left main gear down (green) light was not illuminated. We requested to miss the approach. We climbed to 2500 ft MSL and attempted to cycle the gear again. The result was the same -- the left main gear door (green) light did not illuminate. The gear disagree checklist was accomplished on land, page 6. We tried several times to establish communications with dfw dispatch, and airline tech via commercial radio. However, all attempts failed. Finally bwi operations relayed the message from dfw dispatch that land, page 6, were the correct procedures to follow. We accomplished a low level fly- by in which the left main gear was confirmed in the down position. Landing was successful. Maintenance inspected left main gear assembly before we taxied to the gate.
