Narrative:

Location: abeam dfw 5 mi west. Aircraft heading 050 degrees, 3000 ft. Aircraft on autoplt. Controller gave heading change to 010 degrees. I responded 010 degrees and continued with cockpit setup checklist. First officer misunderstood heading change and turned to 110 degrees. Controller quizzed us about our heading. After I realized the mistake, I informed controller that we would turn to 010 degrees now. Controller then asked us to make a right turn to 010 degrees for traffic. First officer misunderstood heading request and I failed to properly supervise aircraft and first officer. This is a busy time between afw and dfw.
