Narrative:

During takeoff roll a blue heron was observed crossing the runway at about 90 KIAS. The bird decided to reverse course and then dove under to miss the aircraft but was, as we found out later, sucked into the engine. Upon hearing the bird hit the aircraft, the captain aborted the takeoff roll -- we were prior to V1. The first officer informed the tower of the abort and for the passenger to stay seated we would get back to them in a min. The aircraft was stopped and taxied off the runway and back to the gate. While inbound to the gate the captain informed the passenger of the bird strike and that the smell was that the bird went into the engine. I found out that jfk is using falconers to stop sea birds. Maybe this would help. Otherwise I cannot see any way of stopping bird strikes like this one since there was nowhere for the aircraft to go.

Title: ACR MLG ON TKOF ENCOUNTERED BIRD STRIKE. TKOF ABORT AND RETURNED TO THE GATE.

Narrative: DURING TKOF ROLL A BLUE HERON WAS OBSERVED XING THE RWY AT ABOUT 90 KIAS. THE BIRD DECIDED TO REVERSE COURSE AND THEN DOVE UNDER TO MISS THE ACFT BUT WAS, AS WE FOUND OUT LATER, SUCKED INTO THE ENG. UPON HEARING THE BIRD HIT THE ACFT, THE CAPT ABORTED THE TKOF ROLL -- WE WERE PRIOR TO V1. THE FO INFORMED THE TWR OF THE ABORT AND FOR THE PAX TO STAY SEATED WE WOULD GET BACK TO THEM IN A MIN. THE ACFT WAS STOPPED AND TAXIED OFF THE RWY AND BACK TO THE GATE. WHILE INBOUND TO THE GATE THE CAPT INFORMED THE PAX OF THE BIRD STRIKE AND THAT THE SMELL WAS THAT THE BIRD WENT INTO THE ENG. I FOUND OUT THAT JFK IS USING FALCONERS TO STOP SEA BIRDS. MAYBE THIS WOULD HELP. OTHERWISE I CANNOT SEE ANY WAY OF STOPPING BIRD STRIKES LIKE THIS ONE SINCE THERE WAS NOWHERE FOR THE ACFT TO GO.
