Narrative:
Followed another aircraft past hold thinking it was ILS hold line, even though I had been to runway before. There was no interference and error was only slight. I had frequently noticed aircraft doing same. Runway 15 used mainly takeoff only. The setup is very screwy on that runway for no apparent reason. Why is so much runway wasted? 9 out of 10 times, I see aircraft starting takeoff roll from unauthorized place.

Title: A B737-400 CAPT ADMITS FOLLOWING ANOTHER ACFT PAST THE RWY 28C HOLD LINE AT PIT.
Narrative: FOLLOWED ANOTHER ACFT PAST HOLD THINKING IT WAS ILS HOLD LINE, EVEN THOUGH I HAD BEEN TO RWY BEFORE. THERE WAS NO INTERFERENCE AND ERROR WAS ONLY SLIGHT. I HAD FREQUENTLY NOTICED ACFT DOING SAME. RWY 15 USED MAINLY TKOF ONLY. THE SETUP IS VERY SCREWY ON THAT RWY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WHY IS SO MUCH RWY WASTED? 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES, I SEE ACFT STARTING TKOF ROLL FROM UNAUTH PLACE.
