Narrative:

DC9-50 normal landing, at chicago-midway runway 31C. Raining. After touchdown, hydroplaned to a point 3 ft short of runway end line. No aircraft damage. The runway has so much rubber on it that the rain has nowhere to drain. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter was concerned about the rubber accumulation on runway 31C mdw as he almost went off the end of it while landing during moderate rain conditions. Wind was calm or maybe slight tailwind. He states he was within 3 ft of the end before coming to a stop. In answer to the question as to where his touchdown point was, he stated 2000-2500 ft from approach end. He felt most of his stopping problem was due to rubber accumulation.

Title: DC9-50 COMES WITHIN 3 FT OF END OF RWY DURING ROLLOUT IN RAIN AT MDW.

Narrative: DC9-50 NORMAL LNDG, AT CHICAGO-MIDWAY RWY 31C. RAINING. AFTER TOUCHDOWN, HYDROPLANED TO A POINT 3 FT SHORT OF RWY END LINE. NO ACFT DAMAGE. THE RWY HAS SO MUCH RUBBER ON IT THAT THE RAIN HAS NOWHERE TO DRAIN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE RUBBER ACCUMULATION ON RWY 31C MDW AS HE ALMOST WENT OFF THE END OF IT WHILE LANDING DURING MODERATE RAIN CONDITIONS. WIND WAS CALM OR MAYBE SLIGHT TAILWIND. HE STATES HE WAS WITHIN 3 FT OF THE END BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. IN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION AS TO WHERE HIS TOUCHDOWN POINT WAS, HE STATED 2000-2500 FT FROM APCH END. HE FELT MOST OF HIS STOPPING PROBLEM WAS DUE TO RUBBER ACCUMULATION.
