Narrative:

I was getting vectors to ILS runway 30L at hou 300 degrees and 3000 ft. The controller asked if I had a T38 in sight and the airport. I had the T38 in sight and an airport, which I thought was hou. It seemed close in. The controller cleared us for visual approach to runway 30L, and keep the T38 in sight. So we started to dive for the runway. Going through 1500 ft the runway heading didn't agree with runway 30L so we stopped our descent and turned to a heading of 300 degrees. Then we saw hou, continued to the runway and landed. Next time I am going to fly the published approach on a visual approach.

Title: RPTR ERROR ADMITTED IN HDG TRACK DEV WHEN FIXATING ON TFC SIGHTED AND HOU ARPT. FLC DISTR TFC WATCH. FLC TECHNIQUE NAV RESULTED IN APCH TO WRONG ARPT.

Narrative: I WAS GETTING VECTORS TO ILS RWY 30L AT HOU 300 DEGS AND 3000 FT. THE CTLR ASKED IF I HAD A T38 IN SIGHT AND THE ARPT. I HAD THE T38 IN SIGHT AND AN ARPT, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS HOU. IT SEEMED CLOSE IN. THE CTLR CLRED US FOR VISUAL APCH TO RWY 30L, AND KEEP THE T38 IN SIGHT. SO WE STARTED TO DIVE FOR THE RWY. GOING THROUGH 1500 FT THE RWY HDG DIDN'T AGREE WITH RWY 30L SO WE STOPPED OUR DSCNT AND TURNED TO A HDG OF 300 DEGS. THEN WE SAW HOU, CONTINUED TO THE RWY AND LANDED. NEXT TIME I AM GOING TO FLY THE PUBLISHED APCH ON A VISUAL APCH.
