Narrative:

ATC facility: sju center. Location: sju. After about 10 mins in cruise at FL350, flight attendants advised the mid lav smoke detector had activated. I sent the first officer back to look and donned the oxygen mask. When he got to the lav, the aft detector started to go off. I requested an immediate diversion to sju and declared an emergency. Also I called the first officer back to the cockpit. We did a normal diversion and flew 340 KTS to the OM and had equipment standing by. On the ground, the crash fire rescue equipment equipment said all appeared normal so we taxied to the gate. Numerous passenger and flight attendants saw some smoke during the initial stages of the emergency.
