Narrative:

While en route to batavia (heading 230 degrees) which is near cincinnati, I entered airborne NFCT zone 30 mi northeast of batavia at 2800 ft MSL without establishing 2-WAY radio. A friend in the right seat (also a private pilot) was navigating. He suggested using the midwest (mxq) VOR not noticing it was on the field of the towered airport. Although I announced intentions to overfly on unicom I did not realize it was class D until I was through the area. The cincinnati sectional, july 1996, shows the operating hours of the tower as follows: 2300-0700. It seems likely to me that this is a misprint. As pilot I should be more actively involved in the navigation.
