Narrative:

While taxiing we were told to 'hold short of taxiway K' while on taxiway right at ewr. We began to slow to a stop as we approached taxiway K then told to 'follow behind jetstream and monitor tower 118.3.' first officer read back, 'roger, cross taxiway K behind jetstream and monitor tower.' (jetstream was joining taxiway right at taxiway K. No response from ground control. We proceeded and took off without further incident. My point, I realize ATC tries to save time on busy frequencys but it would be helpful if they would verbally cancel the previous hold short (ie, 'cross taxiway K, follow jetstream, monitor tower') instead of the 'assumed' clearance -- 'of course cross taxiway K, you have to in order to follow the jetstream.' in the past at this same spot I have queried the tower and their acknowledgement is an aggravated one with agitated inflection. What is wrong with clarity these days?

Title: CAPT OF AN FK10 COMPLAINT ABOUT ATC HANDLING OF TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WHEREIN, THE FIRST HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS WERE NOT CANCELED WHEN APCHING THE HOLDING POINT DUE TO SUBSEQUENT INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW ANOTHER ACFT.

Narrative: WHILE TAXIING WE WERE TOLD TO 'HOLD SHORT OF TXWY K' WHILE ON TXWY R AT EWR. WE BEGAN TO SLOW TO A STOP AS WE APCHED TXWY K THEN TOLD TO 'FOLLOW BEHIND JETSTREAM AND MONITOR TWR 118.3.' FO READ BACK, 'ROGER, CROSS TXWY K BEHIND JETSTREAM AND MONITOR TWR.' (JETSTREAM WAS JOINING TXWY R AT TXWY K. NO RESPONSE FROM GND CTL. WE PROCEEDED AND TOOK OFF WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. MY POINT, I REALIZE ATC TRIES TO SAVE TIME ON BUSY FREQS BUT IT WOULD BE HELPFUL IF THEY WOULD VERBALLY CANCEL THE PREVIOUS HOLD SHORT (IE, 'CROSS TXWY K, FOLLOW JETSTREAM, MONITOR TWR') INSTEAD OF THE 'ASSUMED' CLRNC -- 'OF COURSE CROSS TXWY K, YOU HAVE TO IN ORDER TO FOLLOW THE JETSTREAM.' IN THE PAST AT THIS SAME SPOT I HAVE QUERIED THE TWR AND THEIR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IS AN AGGRAVATED ONE WITH AGITATED INFLECTION. WHAT IS WRONG WITH CLARITY THESE DAYS?
