Narrative:

Cleared to clt via shine arrival, vxv transition. During descent, we were vectored on and off arrival several times, causing FMS to lose profile descent, manually reverting to vertical speed descent and return. The last clearance was direct shine to cross at 11000 ft and 250 KTS which was entered in FMC. Aircraft proceeded to shine and started profile descent. Did not notice FMA indications. Did not notice aircraft did not achieve profile (idle) descent. Crossed shine at 14000 ft and 290 KTS. Center asked what our altitude was and switched us to clt approach. Supplemental information from acn 354022: while preparing for the ILS runway 18R approach we failed to observe that the VNAV had disconnected and the flight profile had gone high. PF failed to observe profile variation on FMC descent page.

Title: ADVANCED COCKPIT B737 FLC FAILS TO MAKE ALT XING RESTR. ALTDEV ALT UNDERSHOT IN DSCNT WHEN THE VNAV PORTION OF THEIR FMC DISCONNECTS. FLC FAILS TO NOTE ACFT EQUIP PROB MALFUNCTION.

Narrative: CLRED TO CLT VIA SHINE ARR, VXV TRANSITION. DURING DSCNT, WE WERE VECTORED ON AND OFF ARR SEVERAL TIMES, CAUSING FMS TO LOSE PROFILE DSCNT, MANUALLY REVERTING TO VERT SPD DSCNT AND RETURN. THE LAST CLRNC WAS DIRECT SHINE TO CROSS AT 11000 FT AND 250 KTS WHICH WAS ENTERED IN FMC. ACFT PROCEEDED TO SHINE AND STARTED PROFILE DSCNT. DID NOT NOTICE FMA INDICATIONS. DID NOT NOTICE ACFT DID NOT ACHIEVE PROFILE (IDLE) DSCNT. CROSSED SHINE AT 14000 FT AND 290 KTS. CTR ASKED WHAT OUR ALT WAS AND SWITCHED US TO CLT APCH. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 354022: WHILE PREPARING FOR THE ILS RWY 18R APCH WE FAILED TO OBSERVE THAT THE VNAV HAD DISCONNECTED AND THE FLT PROFILE HAD GONE HIGH. PF FAILED TO OBSERVE PROFILE VARIATION ON FMC DSCNT PAGE.
