Narrative:

Wind 320 degrees at 22 KTS, gusting to 30+ KTS. As pilot flared to touchdown, 'bottom fell out' causing sudden drop onto runway. Gear collapsed causing much damage. After event began, it progressed too suddenly for evasive action to prevail. Believe loss of lift probably due to windshear at runway surface. Possibly approach at airspeed much higher than normal, 1.3 vso would have lessened drop. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter wrote to ASRS as he was unable to find the phone number. He was unhappy. FAA is investigating the incident and he would like his identify strip. Analyst callback revealed the aircraft is a mooney, the gear damage is extensive. Reporter is an instructor.
