Narrative:

On the night of nov/xx/96 at XX00 at cleveland hopkins international airport I was cleared for takeoff on runway 23L. Due to the snow and ice as well as me being unfamiliar with hopkins airport I started my takeoff roll on runway 28 which at the end joins runway 23L. The controller came on the radio and told us to reject our takeoff because we were on the wrong runway. I immediately rejected the takeoff, made a 180 degree turn as told to and taxi to runway 23L and was then cleared for takeoff. I then apologized to the controller. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: this learjet freighter flight crew forgot to check their heading when they took the wrong runway for takeoff. The reporter said that they had only rolled about 500 ft when the tower told them to reject. He said that they normally operate from a nearby airport and was unfamiliar with cle, but that snow had closed that airport. The reporter said that his aircraft was capable of using the remaining length of runway 28 for takeoff from a performance standpoint.

Title: A LEARJET FREIGHTER FLC STARTED THEIR TKOF ROLL ON RWY 28 INSTEAD OF RWY 23L AT CLE. THE FLC WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS ARPT. THE ATCT LCL CTLR TOLD THEM TO REJECT.

Narrative: ON THE NIGHT OF NOV/XX/96 AT XX00 AT CLEVELAND HOPKINS INTL ARPT I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 23L. DUE TO THE SNOW AND ICE AS WELL AS ME BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH HOPKINS ARPT I STARTED MY TKOF ROLL ON RWY 28 WHICH AT THE END JOINS RWY 23L. THE CTLR CAME ON THE RADIO AND TOLD US TO REJECT OUR TKOF BECAUSE WE WERE ON THE WRONG RWY. I IMMEDIATELY REJECTED THE TKOF, MADE A 180 DEG TURN AS TOLD TO AND TAXI TO RWY 23L AND WAS THEN CLRED FOR TKOF. I THEN APOLOGIZED TO THE CTLR. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THIS LEARJET FREIGHTER FLC FORGOT TO CHK THEIR HDG WHEN THEY TOOK THE WRONG RWY FOR TKOF. THE RPTR SAID THAT THEY HAD ONLY ROLLED ABOUT 500 FT WHEN THE TWR TOLD THEM TO REJECT. HE SAID THAT THEY NORMALLY OPERATE FROM A NEARBY ARPT AND WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH CLE, BUT THAT SNOW HAD CLOSED THAT ARPT. THE RPTR SAID THAT HIS ACFT WAS CAPABLE OF USING THE REMAINING LENGTH OF RWY 28 FOR TKOF FROM A PERFORMANCE STANDPOINT.
