Narrative:

Approach control at dca gave us a descent from 3000 ft to 2000 ft. We were following a B757 on the lda runway 18 approach to dca. At 2500 ft we got a TCASII alert to climb, which we did. The controller gave the B757 a heading and us a heading that brought us within 200-300 ft vertical separation. Lateral separation was no more than 1/8-1/4 mi. Called approach once on ground and spoke to the supervisor in charge. No action was taken on my part.
