Narrative:

We taxied out to hold short of runway 35L on taxiway a, tower controller had several aircraft cross runway 35C, hold short runway 35L. Our flight number was 'air carrier dih.' there was also an 'air carrier dig' holding short of runway 35C. When controller called 'air carrier di- to cross runway 35C, hold short runway 35L,' the first officer, with 1 month airline experience, read back a clearance of 'air carrier dih cross runway 35C, hold short of runway 35L.' the controller did not respond in either affirmative or negative. When we were halfway across runway 35L, I said 'air carrier dih cross runway 35L, hold short of runway 35C.' he said no, that he was talking to 'air carrier dig, where are you air carrier dih? Just hold short of runway 35C.' after takeoff, I thanked him for his help. He said 'I am sorry for snapping at you.' the controller was very busy, the WX had gotten worse very quickly. You could tell by his voice he was stressed. Human factors came into play for us also, there was level 4 and 5 thunderstorms all day and we had been in the WX since about XA00 pm that day.
