Narrative:

On oct/tue/96, I was PIC of a king air 350 departing hou hobby. The clearance was hobby 9 departure. Jet transition direct sjt direct maf. Normally after reaching industry VOR, I ask an always get direct sjt. This time I failed to ask for direct sjt, but did just that. Nothing was said until I had almost reached sjt. Just before the handoff to ZFW the controller called me on the mistake. The WX was clear and there were no conflicts that I am aware of. I guess I fell into the habit of always receiving direct at iah VOR, that I did it against my clearance. In other words I have no excuse.
