Narrative:

Aircraft departed bdr airport for a part 91 training flight. The aircraft departed north to practice takeoffs and lndgs on the housatonr river. The aircraft set up for a normal landing to the south. The obstacle was one set of power lines on final approach. The aircraft passed high over the power lines. The trainee reduced power, but still missed the landing spot and landed long. There were a few rowing sculls in the area. Our aircraft touched down behind and horizontally with reference to the sculls. The boaters appeared unhappy. I feel this situation could be prevented by installing 'balls' on the power lines. If there are any questions please call my home. Note: the landing area was a restr type landing area. During descent I had briefed the trainee that after passing the power lines a landing would be made. The landing area had a sharp corner at the end. Hence a landing was the only safe option. Another thought is to develop a seaplane landing area on the housatonr river. This would provide a segregated training area.
