Narrative:

On back course approach to san diego runway 27, we constantly lost signal, flags on flight instruments and loss of audio -- loss was only briefly then back to ok. Thought it was our airborne equipment, but have talked to 2 other crews and they also had same indications that back course ILS should be flight checked by FAA and made right. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter captain contacted to verify the subject approach was a localizer runway 27 vice back course runway 27. Captain confirmed it was the localizer runway 27. Reporter states that they were turned on to final at 10 mi when the localizer signal disappeared. After landing the tower was contacted to see if other aircraft had similar problems and the tower's response was 'not officially.' it was suspected that the signal problem could be related more to the B757 aircraft, but reporter says that pilots of other aircraft have experienced a similar problem. Reporter believes that something on the ground caused the loss of signal and could be related to the parking garage on short final.

Title: RECURRENT PROB WITH BACK COURSE RWY 27 LOC SIGNAL. SIGNAL FLUCTUATES AS WELL AS BEING LOST. FLC EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT LOSS OF LOC SIGNAL AND THOUGHT IT WAS THEIR ACFT PROB, BUT FURTHER FOLLOW UP DETERMINED THAT IT IS A CONTINUING PROB AT SAN.

Narrative: ON BACK COURSE APCH TO SAN DIEGO RWY 27, WE CONSTANTLY LOST SIGNAL, FLAGS ON FLT INSTS AND LOSS OF AUDIO -- LOSS WAS ONLY BRIEFLY THEN BACK TO OK. THOUGHT IT WAS OUR AIRBORNE EQUIP, BUT HAVE TALKED TO 2 OTHER CREWS AND THEY ALSO HAD SAME INDICATIONS THAT BACK COURSE ILS SHOULD BE FLT CHKED BY FAA AND MADE RIGHT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR CAPT CONTACTED TO VERIFY THE SUBJECT APCH WAS A LOC RWY 27 VICE BACK COURSE RWY 27. CAPT CONFIRMED IT WAS THE LOC RWY 27. RPTR STATES THAT THEY WERE TURNED ON TO FINAL AT 10 MI WHEN THE LOC SIGNAL DISAPPEARED. AFTER LNDG THE TWR WAS CONTACTED TO SEE IF OTHER ACFT HAD SIMILAR PROBS AND THE TWR'S RESPONSE WAS 'NOT OFFICIALLY.' IT WAS SUSPECTED THAT THE SIGNAL PROB COULD BE RELATED MORE TO THE B757 ACFT, BUT RPTR SAYS THAT PLTS OF OTHER ACFT HAVE EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROB. RPTR BELIEVES THAT SOMETHING ON THE GND CAUSED THE LOSS OF SIGNAL AND COULD BE RELATED TO THE PARKING GARAGE ON SHORT FINAL.
