Narrative:

Fuel heat light came on with switch in off position. Oil temperature rose into the caution zone. Could not get the valve to close. Shut down #3 engine as per operations manual. After talking with dispatch and maintenance. The captain decided to continue to dfw instead of landing at a closer airport. No other problems encountered. Supplemental information from acn 349417: after cycling the switch and checking circuit breakers within 15 mins of the event we did a precautionary shut down of #3 engine. We declared an emergency to receive priority ATC handling.
