Narrative:

On sep/xx/96, at approximately XX00 pm my aircraft was involved in a near collision with a helicopter. I was PIC of a cessna 172 landing at orh. I entered class D airspace from the north and was instructed by ATC to enter a right downwind for runway 29, told to report mid-field downwind. I reported mid-field and ATC instructed me to extend downwind for traffic. At this time a helicopter passed over the top of my aircraft from right to left within 200 ft. At the time of this occurrence it should be noted that ATC was having communication problems. The problem was believed to be a microphone which remained open in another aircraft.
