Narrative:

En route descent into acy. ZDC clears us out of 14000 ft for 8000 ft. I responded the instruction. A few mins later ZDC clears us down to 6000 ft. I responded to the instruction over the radio and continued descent. ZDC sent us to acy approach control. Approach control asked our altitude. I told them I was out of 6500 ft for 6000 ft. Approach asked if we were cleared to 6000 ft. I told them center had cleared us to 6000 ft and I had read back the instruction. The approach controller said center had only cleared us to 8000 ft.
