Narrative:

On base vectors for approach to runway 26L, while extending flaps to position #1, received EICAS alert message, trailing edge flaps disagree. We requested vectors to maneuver while running checklist. First officer leg so I directed that he fly and communicate with ATC while I ran checklist. Used procedure in operations manual vol 1/emergency/abnormal section, flight C section page 3. Extended flaps to 20 degrees for landing using alternate system according to procedure. After procedure complete, decided to request precautionary crash fire rescue equipment standby. Made PA and notified #1 flight attendant. Normal landing and left flaps to 20 degrees for taxi for maintenance action.
