Throttles were pulled back, aborted takeoff executed from 80 KTS. No brakes were used. Autothrottle system on right was in a test mode which prevented the throttle from advancing beyond 1.4 EPR. Maintenance had worked on the engine in mex to fix an engine vibration. Logbook does not indicate the test mode was engaged. Autothrottles were placarded inoperative. Aircraft was taken to run-up area to check out engine. Passenger were not on board. Engines ran up to takeoff power. Flight home was normal but late.
