Narrative:

Shortly after taxi out, a smoke detector light illuminated for a few seconds then went out. We turned around and headed back to the gate. I asked the captain on 2 occasions if we should park the airplane at a remote ramp and deplane the passenger, away from the terminal. He said 'nah, maintenance wants it at gate xy.' I then explained that the last time I had a false battery overtemp and taxied to the xy ramp the tower had a fit when we parked in a congested area with a possible fire hazard. It has come to my attention that any indication of smoke or fire hazard should be treated as an evacuate/evacuation, according to our program of instruction. It turned out to be faulty smoke detector. I guess it was a judgement call as there was no smoke in the cabin.

Title: BAE3200 ACFT. ACFT EQUIP PROB. SMOKE DETECTOR LIGHT ON DURING TAXI FOR FEW SECONDS, WENT OUT. RPTR FO DISAGREED WITH CAPT DECISION TO TAXI TO GATE BECAUSE OF POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD IN CONGESTED AREA.

Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER TAXI OUT, A SMOKE DETECTOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN WENT OUT. WE TURNED AROUND AND HEADED BACK TO THE GATE. I ASKED THE CAPT ON 2 OCCASIONS IF WE SHOULD PARK THE AIRPLANE AT A REMOTE RAMP AND DEPLANE THE PAX, AWAY FROM THE TERMINAL. HE SAID 'NAH, MAINT WANTS IT AT GATE XY.' I THEN EXPLAINED THAT THE LAST TIME I HAD A FALSE BATTERY OVERTEMP AND TAXIED TO THE XY RAMP THE TWR HAD A FIT WHEN WE PARKED IN A CONGESTED AREA WITH A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTN THAT ANY INDICATION OF SMOKE OR FIRE HAZARD SHOULD BE TREATED AS AN EVAC, ACCORDING TO OUR PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION. IT TURNED OUT TO BE FAULTY SMOKE DETECTOR. I GUESS IT WAS A JUDGEMENT CALL AS THERE WAS NO SMOKE IN THE CABIN.
