Narrative:

I am a new hire first officer. Our company is aggressively hiring after many yrs of hard times. After several yrs of no hiring and some layoffs, we have hired 150 plus first officer's to date this yr, and are planning to continue this through next march for another 200 plus. Some capts are unused to having to help out the new hires in their transition stages. It was the first time the captain and I had flown together. He had been with the company for many yrs, and had flown DC3's for its previous owners. I had been on reserve after going on the line aug. During this time, I had only worked 35 hours, with roughly 14 hours as PF. During the night flight, he had come across as a taskmaster, and I worked hard to please him as PNF. I made a few minor mistakes to annoy him though. This morning I was to be PF, departure on runway 3. During the takeoff brief, we both mentioned the prohibited area directly ahead of us over the white house. Our departure was right turn to 060 degrees, climb to 2000 ft, vectors to the andrews 064R. He asked what altitude I was going to turn. My past light twin experience had drilled me no turns below 500 ft. He made a snort, and commented I had better turn earlier than that. However, he did not communicate and I did not clarify what would be a good altitude for the turn. I had a little trouble with directional control and was not perfectly on centerline when I rotated. (The centerline never got outside the nacelles during the roll. Not a good takeoff, not dangerous but below my own standards.) as we rolled, the captain asked in a loud voice, 'where are you going?' prior to rotation, and this distracted me as we cleaned up the aircraft and started climb out. I was late making the turn to 060, and we may have nicked the white house prohibited area. Tower didn't say anything, nor did departure. We were unable to determine how close we had come, and did not ask center. I feel there were a few factors in this possible violation. While a good natured gent out of the aircraft, I was intimidated by the captain. On the night flight he had remarked 'he was not here to be a flight instructor,' while telling me stories of flying the DC3 in his past. I am still learning how to effectively run a 2 man cockpit, and I let the captain intimidate me into silence. On the leg to ewr he mentioned he was known for making passenger out of new hires. If they didn't fly to his standards, he made them into radio operators, if he even allowed them to do that. I will someday be in his shoes. I was raised on ernie gann and fate is the hunter, and I know there is much still to learn. This morning I learned how not to make your first officer part of the crew.

Title: FO OF AN ATR42-320 MAY HAVE PENETRATED P56 RESTR AREA DURING DEP FROM DCA. NEEDLESS TO SAY, CAPT WAS NOT VERY HAPPY ABOUT THAT SINCE HE HAD REVIEWED THE CLOSE PROX THEY WOULD BE TO THE RESTR AREA SOON AFTER TKOF.

Narrative: I AM A NEW HIRE FO. OUR COMPANY IS AGGRESSIVELY HIRING AFTER MANY YRS OF HARD TIMES. AFTER SEVERAL YRS OF NO HIRING AND SOME LAYOFFS, WE HAVE HIRED 150 PLUS FO'S TO DATE THIS YR, AND ARE PLANNING TO CONTINUE THIS THROUGH NEXT MARCH FOR ANOTHER 200 PLUS. SOME CAPTS ARE UNUSED TO HAVING TO HELP OUT THE NEW HIRES IN THEIR TRANSITION STAGES. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THE CAPT AND I HAD FLOWN TOGETHER. HE HAD BEEN WITH THE COMPANY FOR MANY YRS, AND HAD FLOWN DC3'S FOR ITS PREVIOUS OWNERS. I HAD BEEN ON RESERVE AFTER GOING ON THE LINE AUG. DURING THIS TIME, I HAD ONLY WORKED 35 HRS, WITH ROUGHLY 14 HRS AS PF. DURING THE NIGHT FLT, HE HAD COME ACROSS AS A TASKMASTER, AND I WORKED HARD TO PLEASE HIM AS PNF. I MADE A FEW MINOR MISTAKES TO ANNOY HIM THOUGH. THIS MORNING I WAS TO BE PF, DEP ON RWY 3. DURING THE TKOF BRIEF, WE BOTH MENTIONED THE PROHIBITED AREA DIRECTLY AHEAD OF US OVER THE WHITE HOUSE. OUR DEP WAS R TURN TO 060 DEGS, CLB TO 2000 FT, VECTORS TO THE ANDREWS 064R. HE ASKED WHAT ALT I WAS GOING TO TURN. MY PAST LIGHT TWIN EXPERIENCE HAD DRILLED ME NO TURNS BELOW 500 FT. HE MADE A SNORT, AND COMMENTED I HAD BETTER TURN EARLIER THAN THAT. HOWEVER, HE DID NOT COMMUNICATE AND I DID NOT CLARIFY WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD ALT FOR THE TURN. I HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE WITH DIRECTIONAL CTL AND WAS NOT PERFECTLY ON CTRLINE WHEN I ROTATED. (THE CTRLINE NEVER GOT OUTSIDE THE NACELLES DURING THE ROLL. NOT A GOOD TKOF, NOT DANGEROUS BUT BELOW MY OWN STANDARDS.) AS WE ROLLED, THE CAPT ASKED IN A LOUD VOICE, 'WHERE ARE YOU GOING?' PRIOR TO ROTATION, AND THIS DISTRACTED ME AS WE CLEANED UP THE ACFT AND STARTED CLBOUT. I WAS LATE MAKING THE TURN TO 060, AND WE MAY HAVE NICKED THE WHITE HOUSE PROHIBITED AREA. TWR DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING, NOR DID DEP. WE WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW CLOSE WE HAD COME, AND DID NOT ASK CTR. I FEEL THERE WERE A FEW FACTORS IN THIS POSSIBLE VIOLATION. WHILE A GOOD NATURED GENT OUT OF THE ACFT, I WAS INTIMIDATED BY THE CAPT. ON THE NIGHT FLT HE HAD REMARKED 'HE WAS NOT HERE TO BE A FLT INSTRUCTOR,' WHILE TELLING ME STORIES OF FLYING THE DC3 IN HIS PAST. I AM STILL LEARNING HOW TO EFFECTIVELY RUN A 2 MAN COCKPIT, AND I LET THE CAPT INTIMIDATE ME INTO SILENCE. ON THE LEG TO EWR HE MENTIONED HE WAS KNOWN FOR MAKING PAX OUT OF NEW HIRES. THIS MORNING I LEARNED HOW NOT TO MAKE YOUR FO PART OF THE CREW.
