Narrative:

At FL310 at approximately 150 mi west of 48n180e on track 1 there was a solid line of thunderstorms approximately 100 mi wide with the worst of the activity north of the track. Requested a 40 to 45 mi deviation so of track and a higher altitude from ATC through hnl commercial radio. Both requests were denied. The only possible solution to continue safely was to deviate south of track. Therefore, in accordance with far 121.557, we declared an emergency at approximately XA25Z to deviate south of course by 40-45 mi to avoid flying through the active line of thunderstorms on our track. The WX was forecast to be near our route with tops between FL360 and FL390. Deviation back to course was accomplished about 40 mi west of 48n180e.
