Narrative:

At hayed intersection on the williamsport 1 arrival to ewr at assigned altitude 13000 ft MSL, ny approach assigned us a 150 degree heading, then stopped talking to us. Nothing was wrong with our radios. We heard ny approach directing other aircraft, but no further vectors/altitudes for us. When I asked if the controller had forgotten us, the controller no longer 'had' us in his control and had no time to 'sort out' what had happened to us. I attempted contact on two other approach frequencys and received vectors to downwind at ewr. In the time that had elapsed on our 150 degree heading vector, we ended up overhead the yardley VOR near philadelphia before being assigned a heading back toward newark. This added 25 mins to our flight time.
