Narrative:

Released flts on B737-400 with 2 conflicting mels making it a grounded aircraft. The conflict was caught and aircraft deplaned. MEL book is being changed, ground school for all participants. In doing aftermath research, it was found that the second (and conflicting) MEL was issued in error (wrong MEL for the write-up). So no conflict actually happened except for paperwork. The amount of workload on our graveyard shift (approximately 98 segments) may have contributed to this not being caught.

Title: ACR DISPATCHED A B737-400 WITH A CONFLICTING MEL WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE GROUNDING OF THE ACFT. HOWEVER, IT WAS THE WRONG MEL WHICH DID NOT APPLY TO THE WRITE-UP SO THAT THE LOG ENTRY WAS IN ERROR AND NOT THE ACTUAL STATUS OF THE ACFT!
