Narrative:
I was IFR to andrau texas airport from gulfport, ms. Beaumont, tx, ATC issued an amendment to my route that I missed a portion of due to scratchy radio. The amendment called for a STAR routing and andrau direct. I missed the 'STAR routing' portion but heard the 'andrau direct' part and acknowledged. The transmission was terrible, but I should have questioned until I understood, especially since I did not see a change. ATC finally asked where I was heading handed me off. Up until that point I thought I was going to an intersection. Just should not have proceeded without a full understanding.
