Narrative:

After completing normal takeoff checklist takeoff roll was initiated. As takeoff power was being set by the first officer at approximately 50 KTS, a loss of torque was noted in the #2 engine. First officer called the abort and the captain executed the abort procedure. ATC was notified and no assistance was requested. As aircraft was turned off runway 8L at taxiway D #2 fire indicators/warnings noted, aircraft was stopped, an emergency was declared, and equipment was requested. #2 cl was F/fso #2 'T' handle pulled and #1 squib shot. Checklist was reviewed, fire did not go out, evacuate/evacuation was considered, #1 cl F/fso #1 'T' pulled, approximately 30 seconds after squib #1, squib #2 shot. Approximately 10-15 seconds fire indications went out. Door was opened but flight attendant kept passenger in seats. Hnl equipment verified no fire, aircraft was towed to ramp, passenger deplaned and re-accommodated. Supplemental information from acn 342246: 30 seconds after #2 engine had been shut down and first fire agent discharged, a second agent was discharged due to continuing fire warning indications. Evacuate/evacuation was considered. 5-10 seconds after the second agent was fired, engine fire indications extinguished. Evacuate/evacuation was determined unnecessary with verification by fire crews that no conditions existed. Airplane was towed to gate where passenger deplaned and re-accommodated.
