Narrative:

There was damage to the #6 leading edge flap on our aircraft. The damage was imperceptible and undetected by the flight crew prior to departing rsw. Someone in rsw called our maintenance department after we were airborne and told them of the damage. The flight crew was never informed of the damage, thereby creating a safety problem. The flap survived the flight intact and no incident occurred. Lack of communication.
