Narrative:

On departure from hpn runway 34 we had been cleared to climb to 11000 ft and had been alerted by departure for traffic at 9000 ft. TCASII confirmed same and climb was continued, departure instructed us to turn away from traffic and we complied. Traffic was in sight during entire event. TCASII alerted us of traffic and we complied with the RA from TCASII. Traffic continued on its course. In my opinion departure waited too long to direct us from the traffic (that I assumed was VFR).
