Narrative:

I had just landed on renton field and was now ready to taxi into position to takeoff, so I contacted ground. I stated my call sign 'with ATIS at southeast corner, requesting runway 33 for takeoff.' ground replied, 'taxi to runway 33.' I read back 'clear for runway 33.' thinking I was cleared all the way to runway 33, I took the active as if I was at an uncontrolled field. (I fly almost only out of uncontrolled airports.) I realized I was in error when I changed from ground to tower frequency, and had not held short at the hold short line. I need to spend more time in controled airspace and class D airports (and practice).

Title: A PVT PLT RPTS THAT HE FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF THE RWY AFTER HAVING ONLY RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO THAT RWY. THE ERROR WAS DISCOVERED ON THE RWY, WHILE STILL ON THE GND CTLR'S FREQ.

Narrative: I HAD JUST LANDED ON RENTON FIELD AND WAS NOW READY TO TAXI INTO POS TO TKOF, SO I CONTACTED GND. I STATED MY CALL SIGN 'WITH ATIS AT SE CORNER, REQUESTING RWY 33 FOR TKOF.' GND REPLIED, 'TAXI TO RWY 33.' I READ BACK 'CLR FOR RWY 33.' THINKING I WAS CLRED ALL THE WAY TO RWY 33, I TOOK THE ACTIVE AS IF I WAS AT AN UNCTLED FIELD. (I FLY ALMOST ONLY OUT OF UNCTLED ARPTS.) I REALIZED I WAS IN ERROR WHEN I CHANGED FROM GND TO TWR FREQ, AND HAD NOT HELD SHORT AT THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I NEED TO SPEND MORE TIME IN CTLED AIRSPACE AND CLASS D ARPTS (AND PRACTICE).
