Narrative:

We purchased yak-52 aircraft in early may/xx/96. Importer said that aircraft was still registered in lithuania. He said the lithuanian registration number was XXX and that we were legal and provided documentation that it was legal to fly said yak until such time that de-registration occurred. He said I'd be legal to fly and ferry the aircraft from texas to our base in wyoming. I flew and my partner flew the aircraft for several days until we were notified de- registration was occurring. We then grounded the aircraft and have not flown since. The problem for me is that when the de-registration arrived, to our surprise the aircraft had been de-registered the previous nov/xx/95. No incidents or problems occurred.

Title: 2 PLTS RPT THAT THEY FLEW THEIR YAK-52 WITHOUT REGISTRATION. THE ACFT WAS SOLD SUPPOSEDLY WITH LITHUANIAN REGISTRATION, BUT THIS HAD ALREADY BEEN CANCELED WHEN THE ACFT WAS DELIVERED.

Narrative: WE PURCHASED YAK-52 ACFT IN EARLY MAY/XX/96. IMPORTER SAID THAT ACFT WAS STILL REGISTERED IN LITHUANIA. HE SAID THE LITHUANIAN REGISTRATION NUMBER WAS XXX AND THAT WE WERE LEGAL AND PROVIDED DOCUMENTATION THAT IT WAS LEGAL TO FLY SAID YAK UNTIL SUCH TIME THAT DE-REGISTRATION OCCURRED. HE SAID I'D BE LEGAL TO FLY AND FERRY THE ACFT FROM TEXAS TO OUR BASE IN WYOMING. I FLEW AND MY PARTNER FLEW THE ACFT FOR SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL WE WERE NOTIFIED DE- REGISTRATION WAS OCCURRING. WE THEN GNDED THE ACFT AND HAVE NOT FLOWN SINCE. THE PROB FOR ME IS THAT WHEN THE DE-REGISTRATION ARRIVED, TO OUR SURPRISE THE ACFT HAD BEEN DE-REGISTERED THE PREVIOUS NOV/XX/95. NO INCIDENTS OR PROBS OCCURRED.
