Narrative:

Practice IFR approach to napa, VOR 6. 700 ft overcast, 2200-ft tops, marine layer, 29.91 inches. IFR filed, apc direct sgd direct apc at 4000 ft. Takeoff clearance, contacted center, cleared to 4000 ft, outbound 230 degree radial sgd on VOR 6 approach. Climbed to 4300 ft, was starting descent to 4000 ft when center requested altitude, replied 4300 ft. WX clear above 2200 ft. Was told to descend to 4000 ft. Was called second time for altitude, replied 4100 ft descending. Was told to call ZOA. I accidentally touched autotrim switch on yoke, turning off altitude preselect and climbed to 4300 ft before noticing in scan. I was starting to correct to 4000 ft when called. Balance of approach uneventful.
