Narrative:

We were on the arrival for runway 36L on left downwind when we got a TA on TCASII. It said it was 900 ft above and to the right rear. I looked out and saw an airbus. As the airbus passed our right wing I asked approach if the airbus was going to be a factor and he said 'he will if you don't turn right to 220 degrees,' which I didn't understand because he didn't let us know the traffic was there and made it sound like it was our fault and that heading turned us right toward the traffic. So we turned right and passed under the airbus. No other action was necessary.
