Narrative:

We had completed before pushback check and I had called and received clearance from ramp control. I was looking over my right shoulder to clear the aircraft right side when pushback commenced. I heard a loud noise accompanied by severe pitch oscillations of aircraft. Ground crew advised tow bar had sheared and rotated up into nosewheel, breaking the over center lock. Passenger deplaned without injury through aft airstairs.
